There is so much noise surrounding us and we are constantly filling ourselves with this noise until we forget what silence is. We live in a world that is bound by the senses. We do not believe anything unless we see it with our eyes, until we hear it with our ears, until we smell it with our nose, until we feel it with our hands. We do not believe in non-sense like following our hearts in the true sense. We have let our focus be on the senses so that all we feel is what is right in front of us and not what is beyond.
Let me be quiet
In the middle of this noise.
Close your eyes and feel the silence. Feel beyond what you can touch, feel beyond what you can hear, see or smell. Stop filling yourself with noise and embrace silence.
It is only in silence that
I feel Your presence.
It is only in silence that
I have found You.
How can you hear the cries of your soul if you do not stop to listen? How can you hear what your heart is screaming, if you do not pay attention?
Your body is a shell that covers your soul. Stop following your body and follow your soul instead. Your soul is what will take you to the Light. Only when you silence your hands, eyes, ears and nose, only when you silence your body, will you be able to go beyond this world.
We are drowning in the oceans of this world yet we don’t stop to do anything about it. We let the waves carry us from one shore to the next, never stopping to revel in solitude, in silence. To find ourselves, we have to seek our soul and to seek our soul, we have to find silence inside the noise. We must find a path that takes us to silence, to our soul.
Your soul and
Do not need words
To understand each other.
These days, I find myself content in silence. When words become sparse and the world inside me is quiet, I can see myself clearly. Instead of feeling so many emotions at once, I feel nothing. This illustrates the role that words, noise and this world perform on our individual beings. Emotions are an integral part of our beings because we feel so much and sometimes it is overwhelming thus we succumb to everything that we are feeling.
Take one moment to feel everything, let it all come in waves but then in the next moment, find your silence. Don’t be delusional but instead consider the idea that everything you are feeling merely lasted for one moment. Moments, good or bad, shall pass and then all you are left with is the next moment. Remind yourself that you decide what you feel in the next moment but never avoid your feelings.
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honourably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
Indeed, emotions sometimes take us on rollercoasters but we must ride along with them, even when we fear for our sanity. Only after you feel your emotions, only after you hear your soul will you be able to let go of what you are feeling. You cannot let go of something that you have never felt.
I have had moments where I have felt as though I could never come out of them without scars but actually scars are only scars if you give them permission to be scars. There are instances where I have felt so many feelings all at once which causes panic and so much pain because you do not know what you are feeling and that is scarier than anything else.
These emotional states can ruin you, if you allow them to but if you can look past them and see that you are feeling all these emotions because of things which are not even in your control. You can plan a day out with friends but you cannot control what happens in every moment until you are in that moment. You cannot, I repeat, you cannot control everything. Place your trust in the Controller of the Universe, in God and I vow that nothing will touch you deep enough to leave a scar. He is the Controller of all Hearts and if you ask Him to make your heart firm, He will, without doubt.
Let’s finish with Hafiz’s poetry on Silence and finding God in Silence,
A day of Silence
Can be a pilgrimage in itself.
A day of Silence
Can help you listen
To the Soul play
In marvellous lute and drum.
Is not most talking
A crazed defence of a crumbling fort?
I thought we came here
To surrender in Silence,
To yield to Light and Happiness,
To Dance within
In celebration of Love’s Victory.
